About the Great Wall

The main purpose behind building the wall was to act as an impenetrable line of defense. However, it did work as kind of elevated highway shipping equipment and transporting people across mountainous terrain.
How Long Is the Wall
It is difficult to investigate the accurate length of the Great Wall of China as there are many sections that lie in remote deserts, grasslands and mountains. However, a complete investigation has announced the wall to be 5,500 miles. The wall in Beijing measures about 550 km. This is the biggest manmade structure on the planet.
Badaling section is the most famous of the Great Wall as well as the biggest one and receives the maximum number of visitors. The wall displays the history and culture of China.
When to visit
The best time to visit May, September or early October when the temperatures are brisk and weather is sunny. You will feel more comfortable and refreshed as you explore the Great Wall. You can also visit during June to August, but it is slightly hotter and it is more crowded. Avoid going from November to April when the weather gets really cold.
You will find that important sections of the wall have been rebuilt and many restaurants, souvenir shops and amusement-parks are opened to the public. Great Wall tours are often offered along with the trips to the Ming Tombs.
